Flint Ridge is a
historical landmark about 40 miles east of
Columbus, Oh. Many great places to
hike, and the historical aspect is pretty interesting. The ridge itself is many miles of solid
flint... an almost
inexhaustible supply. It was supposedly discovered by the
Palaeo Indians about 9 thousand years ago. Because there was enough flint for all, and the
strategic advantage the ridge would give whoever
controlled it, it was considered
neutral territory, and a
war free zone. The ridge stretches through
Newark,
Zanesville, and
Glenford, Ohio and can be reached by I-70 or Rt. 16. There is a museum and state memorial park in Glenford, which is pretty neat from what I can remember... by god, it's been a while.
