Vauxhall Cross is the
illustrious London headquarters of
Britain's external security service
MI6. Built in 1993, and occupied by MI6 in 1995, it is located on the south bank of the river
Thames, close to
Vauxhall Bridge.
The building itself is
ironically one of the most
striking and well-known shapes on the
London skyline. The initial impression is that of a
fortress with green glass windows.
Inside, Vauxhall Cross is apparently comparable with some of the best
offices. Entrance is by staff number and passcode, and inside staff have access to, among other things, a
squash court.
Much of this comes from
Richard Tomlinson's book,
The Big Breach.
