And now for the view of the loyal opposition ...

St. Ides is actually a rather nice brew for those of us who love beer yet yearn for something different. A bit stiffer than the usual beer, yet it is not as sweet as most malt liquor, which often adds sugar to the mix of hops, malt, water and yeast in order to drive up the resulting alcohol content. Both St. Ides and Colt 45are manufactured by the Pabst brewing company. If you go to the Pabst website at http://www.pabst.com/ you can learn that "After consuming a bucket or two of vibrant brew they called aul, or ale, the Vikings would head fearlessly into battle often without armor or even shirts. In fact, the term "berserk" means "bare shirt" in Norse, and eventually took on the meaning of their wild battles."

Interestingly enough, "pabst" is German for pope, and St. Ides really is a Catholic saint, though she is more commonly known as St. Ita or St. Ida. St. Ides was a from the Killeedy district of County Waterford in Ireland and lived in the sixth century. It is not know if St. Ides ever participated in shirtless, wild battles.
