The anterior commissure is a bundle of neural fibers that connects the middle and inferior temporal gyri of the cerebral hemispheres. The fibers cross the midline of the brain just in front of the fornix.
The anterior commissure is typically fairly easy to see in detailed structural scans (i.e. magnetic resonance imaging), and has been used as the origin of a coordinate system in the anatomical atlas of the brain created by Talairach.
