Third baseman, and occasional pitcher, Wade Boggs played for the Boston Red Sox from 1983 through 1992. During this time, he was voted on the All-Star Team every year from 1985, and he led the league in batting average in 1983 and from 1985-1988. He was, as can be seen, a superlative (left-handed) hitter, and was also a solid fielder, earning two gold gloves in 1994 and 1995.

In 1993, he was traded to signed as a free agent by (thanks TheDeadGuy) the New York Yankees, the arch-rival of the Red Sox. Much bitterness ensued. He continued to put up solid numbers as a Yankee, but was never really as effective as he was in Boston. In 1998, he went to the newly formed Tampa Bay Devil Rays, whom he played with for 2 seasons, managing to collect his 3000th hit before retiring at the age of 41.

As for the pitching... he pitched twice, once for the Yankees and once for the Devil Rays. A total of 2 and 2/3 innings, and he only allowed one run. Not too bad for a third baseman. He even managed to strike someone out (using, if memory serves, a knuckleball).
