Croy is a
village in
North Lanarkshire, in the centre of
Scotland, part of the
United Kingdom. It is best known to travellers for its
railway station, which lies on the line between
Glasgow to the West and
Stirling and
Edinburgh to the East.
Croy lies in the Kelvin Valley and is situated near Croy Hill and one of the best-preserved sections of the Antonine Wall, a fortification which was built from the River Forth to the River Clyde by the Romans to keep barbaric Picts out of Southern Scotland and the rest of Roman Britain. Tourists can walk along part of the route of the wall, which has recently been reinstated as a footpath.
