Originally called "Weatherman", after Bob Dylan's You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows line, it was changed shortly thereafter to the non-sexist WU. They were an offshoot of an offshoot of Students for a Democratic Society, a leading antiwar, antiestablishment 60's organization; the WU was part of the faction that wanted to "Bring The War Home" - they eventually did just that, via some terrorist acts in the US.
