Marion Elliot; a teenage London proto-grrl with braces on her teeth and a Day-Glo mind. Lead singer for the seminal, short-lived (save for a '95 reunion) X-Ray Spex, her wonderfully wacky song-ing carried all the exhilaration of one's first hit of punk, even on the 94th listen. She became a Hare Krishna after leaving the band (they became part of Classix Nouveaux in her absence); her solo work as a grown-up mum has been mellower and more musicianly -- a wee bit removed from the "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!" of '77, having, it seems, permanently lent That Voice and Energy to Kathleen Hanna.
