KBTC (The BTC standing for
Bates Technical College), is a
PBS station which is
adminstered from Bates Technical College (In
Tacoma,
Washington)for the purpose of educating
Communications Technology students on the inner-workings of a
Television Station. It is the
only school-ran television station in the
United States that allows first-year students to actually participate in running the
station (Every other learning-institution-controlled station in the country is ran by four-year institutions and typically make students sit in lecture halls for a year or so before even letting them inside the
Operations room). Although the switching and production is actually done from
Bates, the signal is actually sent out from two transmitters strategically placed in the surrounding area. The transmitters receive the signal from Bates via
microwave tranmission.
