Prior to serving as Secretary of Defense and Vice-Presidential candidate, he served as a Wyoming Congressman (and Minority Whip), Deputy Assitant to Gerald Ford, Deputy White House Chief of Staff, assistant director of the Cost of Living Council, special assistant to the director of the Office of Economic Opportunity.
