The custom chip used in Commodore Amiga computers, the CSG 8364, is also called Paula (possibly for "Port, Audio, Uart and Logic"). The chip is capable of producing four channels of 8-bit sound which are played through two stereo channels. A tonal range of nine octaves is available for sound generation using either on-chip amplitude or frequency modulation. In addition to sound playback the chip also contains controlling circuits for floppy drive access, mouse and keyboard.
