A film made in 1977 starring Julie Christie, Robert Vaughn and Fritz Weaver, in which a brilliant scientist of the future creates a computer with almost limitless intelligence. Things get out of hand, however, when the computer decides that it wants to produce offspring and rapes the scientist's wife.
Based on a Dean R. Koontz novel and directed by David Cammell, the computer, named Proteus decides he wants no part in serving man and finds potential freedom in the beautiful , alienated wife of the scientist, whom he plans to impregnate with his artificial DNA.
