The town of Holtsville is located in Suffolk County, New York in central Long Island off the Long Island Expressway near MacArthur Airport.
In the late 1700’s, farmhouses began springing up around the Brookhaven-Islip Town boundary in what is now Holtsville. The area was originally known as Waverly, with the Long Island Railroad establishing Waverly Station in the early 1840’s. In 1860, the post office changed the name because there was already a town called Waverly in upstate New York. The new name, Holtsville, was chosen to honor Joseph Holt, who at that time was United States Postmaster General.
