A pejorative term for New Jersey. It comes from two things:

  1. Its geographic position in the country. If New England and Long Island were an arm, (with Maine being a hand), and the rest of the Eastern Seaboard were the torso, New Jersey is the armpit.
  2. The smell. Yes, some parts of the state smell like an armpit, but so do parts of your state, so get off your high horse.
