Species which look similar to each other which can, nevertheless, be separated
in the field if sufficient detail is available (e.g.
Common Tern and
Arctic Tern).
Sometimes, it is only possibly to be certain of a species by dissection (for example, many species of slug) and the term "confusion species" could not be accurately applied here.
