Stalking the Blue-Eyed Scallop

Another "find your own food" book by Euell Gibbons and Catherine Hammond, This is THE field quide one would want to have if lost on an ocean island. It is full of illustrations of various sea life (plant and animal) found on or near the shore & in tidal pools and information on how to capture, prepare, cook and eat the morsels. Many are just morsels and would require a large time investment to get a belly full

On a seaside vacation, at least in most developed places, it is doubtful that one will be allowed to gather wildlife freely but it is still fun to be able to recognize the animals at the shore and perhaps at one's local fishmonger and the recipes are excellent.

The namesake of the book (Placopecten magellanicus or ocean blue-eyed scallop) is actually somewhat endangered due according to the Audubon Fish Scale. It has a "yellow" rating, meaning there are "Significant concerns about a species' status, fishing methods and or management."
