Holding onto a promise
after three days of rain, both
gentle and flooding,
the sun unclouded
a sudden patch of blue
that I desperately tried to hold onto
despite the thunder
long enough
to run from the front of the house
to the back door
where one perfect rainbow
graced the dripping sky, arching
above three houses,
high and promising
something
but as I attempted to capture the event
with new technology,
the colors faded and disappeared,
much to my disappointment.
