Who wouldn't read that NY Daily News article?
I mean, grammar and wording aside,
just the image and outrageous concept
of life becoming just too unbearable
for a large, inanimate statue,
on an island in the middle of a river,
a veritable icon,
"Give me your tired and your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,"
one arm forever raised,
finally too tired to keep saying day after day,
"The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
If she gives up after all she has borne,
what can we, mere mortal women,
flesh, blood, and bone
do when our eyes and hearts have seen enough?
