Stands for "Defense Condition".

DEFCONS:

• DEFCON 5 - The National Defense condition for "Normal peace time readiness"
• DEFCON 4 - The National Defense condition for "Normal, increased intelligence and strengthened security measures."
• DEFCON 3 - The National Defense condition for "Increase in force readiness above normal readiness"
• DEFCON 2 - The National Defense condition for "Further Increase in force readiness, but less than maximum readiness"
• DEFCON 1 - The National Defense condition for "Maximum force readiness.
