A rat run is term to describe a route via back roads to avoid traffic congested main roads. Usually councils try to prevent them by blocking off roads or installing sleeping policemen.

I could create a meta node here of good rat runs.

Woking to Bracknell

Head to Chobham, head towards Sunningdale, turn left towards Windlesham village crossing the M3, easily. Cross the main Bagshot road. You cannot turn right immediately. Go all the way around the next roundabout. Come back to the same lights and turn left onto the Bagshot road. You would have been stuck by these traffic lights anyway. You have sucessfully missed about half an hour of queuing to get across the M3 and missed the level crossing at Sunningdale.

I've only written off one car taking this route.
