Portland seems to have embraced its
airport code to an extent not equalled in any other city. Upon
deplaning, passangers are greeted by signs
proclaiming "Welcome to PDX." (The word
portland is not even mentioned.) Hungry passengers can make their way to the PDX
foodcourt for a snack, before heading to
Powell's PDX for a book or magazine. Leaving the aiport, a large
street sign says "Thank you for visiting PDX." (Once again, "
portland" is suspiciously absent.)
Stranger still is the URL for Portland State University: www.pdx.edu.
