Blind bluesman born in
North Carolina near the beginning of this century. Terry, a
harmonica player, spent most of his life paired with singer/guitarist
Brownie McGhee.
Terry was recorded in the 30's by Alan Lomax in one of Lomax's first sessions of Field Recordings. Later, after teaming up with McGhee, Terry played throughout the world, even bringing his country blues to the Broadway stage in the 40's. With the folk revival of the late 50's McGhee and Terry gained a new prominence and financial security. They continued to perform together throughout the 70's, appearing in Steve Martin's The Jerk (they're the old bluesmen on the porch at the beginning).
Terry died sometime in the 80's.
