Return to charpoy (thing)

A charpoy, also known as a charpai (from char paya, meaning "four legs"), is a traditional [bed] in widespread use in northern [India], consisting of a carved wooden frame strung with ropes of woven [jute].

Simple, cheap, and surprisingly much more comfortable than they look, these beds are absolutely ubiquitous in India, even today.
