Milton Acorn, along with Sir Andrew Macphail and Lucy Maud Montgomery, is one of the three literary figures to come from Prince Edward Island. Acorn fashioned himself as a troubadour of the working class and was famed for his public performances, as well as his strongly left wing political views. His greatest work, I've tasted my blood was published in 1969. He was awarded the Canadian Poets Award in 1970. His 1975 collection of poems, The Island Means Minago, was awarded the Governor General's Award.
