A
prolific writer of
fantasy,
horror and
science fiction. He was born in
New York April 27, 1903. He attended
New York University in 1920-1921, but was convinced by his friend
H. P. Lovecraft to forego
formal education and become a
free-lance writer. He sold his first story to
Weird Tales at age 21, and his career lasted an incredible 60 years.
Students of the "Cthulhu Mythos" will recognize him for his
"The Hounds of Tindalos", which has been published several times under various labels, e.g. Arkham House and Weird Tales.
He was nominated for several World Fantasy Awards, and in 1979 he took home the award for Lifetime Achievement. In 1988 he won the Bram Stoker Award, also for Lifetime Achievement.
Frank Belknap Long died in New York January 3, 1994.
