Softly falls the light of day
As our campfire fades away
Silently each Scout should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to be prepared?

Imagine a hundred male voices (and in later years a few adult female voices) stretching from the alto of the youngest through the range of tenors and baritones to the bass. None are professional singers, and only the crashing of waves against the beach and the whisper of the wind through the trees add to the simplicity of the voices singing. There are few memories of scout camp as touching as scout vespers at the closing campfire - it still brings a tear to my eye remembering its simple beauty.
