A type of Venetian silver coin, minted from 1202 to around 1350. Silver content approximately 2.1 g.
The obverse displays the Doge, receiving a banner from St. Mark; the reverse shows a seated Christ. The matapan was in common use in the Eastern Mediterranean during its heyday.
