German historian. Born 1910, died 1986.

Werner Conze was intrumental in reorganising the German historical field of study, and in 1957 he was made professor and head of the Institut für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte at the University of Heidelberg.

As a pioneer in structuralist historical theory, he tried to combine political and social history. He collaborated on the publication of Geschichtliche Grundbegiffe, volumes 1-5 (1972-1984), and wrote Polnische Nation und deutsche Politik im Ersten Weltkrieg (1958) and Die deautsche Nation (1963).
