Russian author and chronicler of the theatre. Born in Ufa 1791, died 1859. Father of Konstantin Sergeievich Aksakov.

As a civil servant in St. Petersburg, Aksakov mingled with the literary and thespian circles of the city. A close friend of Gogol, whom he portrayed in his writings, Aksakov's breakthrough as a writer came with his innovative sketches of fishing and hunting life. Other significant works are the memoirs A Family Chronicle (1852) and Grandson Bagrov's Childhood Years (1856).
