Danish-American jazz trombonist. Born 1922, died 1983.
From the mid-1940s on, Kai Winding was part of the bebop milieu in New York, where he took part in the first recording session for the seminal Birth of the Cool album, with Miles Davis.
Later, Kai Winding played with Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton, and from 1954 on, he organised a quintet with trombonist J.J. Johnson. In the 1960s, he was a studio musician and the musical director of the Playboy clubs.
With his simple and robust style, Winding is recognised as one of the bebop period's great jazz trombonists.
