(Abbreviation, from German: Hilfspolizei, "auxilliary police")

The HIPO corps was a German police auxilliary corps, formed from Danish collaborators during the World War II German occupation of Denmark, 1940-1945.

Heartily reviled by the Danes, the HIPO became increasingly brutal as the war dragged on. During the final winter of the occupation (1944/1945), the HIPO reached a nadir of brutality, torturing and murdering Danes suspected of aiding the resistance.

After the liberation of Denmark (May 5, 1945), 46 members of the HIPO were tried for treason, murder and torture, and executed.
