(Comet 1858 VI)
A truly spectacular comet, seen in 1858. Famous for having multiple haloes around its coma: parabolic envelopes with vertices towards the Sun and foci near the apparent nucleus. The haloes were regular and sharp, and are generally thought to have been the result of repeated ejections of material from a single active area on the nucleus, exposed periodically to sunlight as the cometary nucleus rotated every 4.6 hours.
