An Australian swimming legend. Born 23 November 1956.

Her most famous achievements was at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Here she won 5 individual medals: 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze . She was awarded the Australian on the Year award in this year, which was pretty impressive for a 15 (turning 16) year old.

September 1972 was the peak of her swimming career, where Shane held every women’s freestyle world record: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, and the 200m individual medley. In fact, she made 11 world records from 1971 to 1973.

Shane now lives in Margaret River, Western Australia and makes an appearance on Channel 7 Sports now and then. She has 4 grown up children and loves horse riding. And, she still swims 3 times a week and currently holds records in the Masters swimming competition (2000).
