The Scribblies, aka the Interstate Writers Group, formed in 1980 in Minneapolis, Minnesota where there are (according to Emma Bull's biography) two seasons: snow removal and road repair.

Various members of the Scribblies have gone on to notable success in the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Members included Kara Dalkey, neo-trotskyite Steven Brust, Flashgirl Emma Bull, Patricia C. Wrede, Will Shetterly, and Pamela Dean.

Many of their works have an obsession with food, gothic themes, and folk music. The group also had close ties to SF&F editor Terri Windling and fellow author Jane Yolen.
