Ping Ping Ping! Ricochet Rabbit!

Ricochet Rabbit (voiced by Don Messick) was a Hanna-Barbera studio creation of the late 1960's, along with many of their other top-shelf characters, including Wally Gator, Snagglepuss, Quick Draw McGraw, and Magilla Gorilla. Ricochet was the sheriff of Hoop 'n Holler, a not-so-sleepy Western town constantly plagued by bank robbers and other such villainy. True to his name, Ricochet literally bounced off the walls, eager to bring justice to the land. He also had the slightly endearing habit of making a "ping-ping!" noise whenever he fired his gun, which no doubt became a much less endearing habit in the hands of 8-year-old cartoon watchers.

Ricochet was aided by a deputy named Droopalong Coyote (Mel Blanc) who, in contrast to his speed demon boss, talked slow and shot slow, his bullets literally floating across the screen (although more often than not they got the job done.)

Ricochet Rabbit made his first on-screen appearance on the Wally Gator backup "Touche Turtle" in 1963. He got his own show behind Magilla Gorilla in August of 1964, and spent ten episodes there before being swapped with "Breezly & Sneezly", which had backed up Peter Potamus' cartoon show. There, Ricochet played for 13 more episodes until both he and Peter were cancelled. The rascally rabbit hasn't been seen since, though a DVD release of a number of Hanna-Barbera shows is expected in the near future.
