Warren, 42, is a
songwriter who has written more pop hits than any other writer (since the mid-80s, anyway). Three of those - "Un-Break My Heart" (
Toni Braxton)," "Because You Loved Me" (
Celine Dion), and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (
Aerosmith) - were among the biggest hits of the 90's. She wrote "
Blame It On the Rain" (
Milli Vanilli) and "
Rhythm of the Night" (
DeBarge), which you may remember from...that movie, starring
Vanity.
She has her own publishing company, Realsongs, which grossed $25 million last year from her copyrights. It's why she's done so well: most songwriters lose a significant portion of their proceeds. Publishers take 25% and performance royalties are split between publishers and writers.
(Warren) has a reputation, even in the music business, for being vulgar. Her sense of humor, which she terms "pretty twisted," focuses on body parts and body noises, and she swears like a teenager in detention. She dislikes travel, has no hobbies and rarely takes time out from a seven-day workweek.
