Traditionally, any long arm that has a barrel of length greater than 18 inches and fires a non military cartrdige like the 30-30 (thuty-thuty), .243, .22-250, or any other nefwangled wildcat round. This however, does not mean, that there are no real hunting rifles that are chambered for military adopted cartridges, like the venerable 30-'06 or 30-06 thirty aught six.
