A medical device used to stabilize the neck and vertibrae after injuries such as odontoid fractures. The device consists of a metal ring (the halo) attached to the skull with screws or pins. The halo is then attached to support rods, which are atached in turn to a plastic jacket fitted to the patient's torso.

The device permits the stabilized vertibrae to heal and fuse within a few months.

A drawing of a patient wearing a halo brace can be seen at this link: http://www.spineuniverse.com/treatment/physical_therapy/ag_030400danek_halobrace.html
