In Taino mythology, the god of order and creation, in opposition to Juracán, god of chaos and destruction. The Tainos had no concepts for evil and good and it is only through European eyes that the gods are cast in those roles. It seems that the top deity in the Taino pantheon was Atabey, mother of Yuquiyú, "Mother of the waters" and goddess of fertility, but this may just be a modern spin.

Yuquiyú lived in the eastern mountain range in Puerto Rico from which the range and a nearby town took their names, Luquillo. There is also a small town on the foothills leading to El Yunque that carries the name Yuquiyú.
