On the South side of Chicago, in a brightly tiled, pink building on South Western Avenue, stands the Original Rainbow Cone, a Chicago ice cream institution for over seventy years. A staple summer confection at Taste of Chicago, the Rainbow Cone is a concoction of flavors layered into a plain cake cone for all of humanity's enjoyment, created by Joseph Sapp.

Chocolate, Pistachio, Orange Sherbet, Strawberry and a delicious creation called Palmer House ice cream (cherry vanilla with nuts), are slathered into the cone with a flat spoon, creating a uniquely lopsided elliptical scoop. Definitely a love it or hate it, acquired taste (especially the combo of pistachio and orange sherbet),Rainbow Cone is only available to the demanding, sweet toothed masses between April and December.
