Peter Mark Roget was a Physician and scholar, creator of Roget's Thesaurus, born in London, England, UK. He studied medicine at Edinburgh, became physician to the Manchester Infirmary (1804), physician to the Northern Dispensary, London (1808), and Fullerian professor of physiology at the Royal Institution (1833--6). He was also secretary of the Royal Society (1827--49), and an original member of the Senate of London University. He is best known for his Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases (1852), which he wrote after his retirement from medical practice.
