I drew you away
as a sketch in my hands
paper lamps dangling

Chiang Mai night
five dancers did the routine
of remembrance, mask of ghost demon
behind the red slits in the light
specter of incense and silk

two feet slipping down
Sadhu hillside in the rain
speaking the words and
grading the sights of mossy
stones in moonlight
from one to ten
fog walking through the pass
to find the empty village

I laid in the field
blind to many colors
looking for the sun
oathless, clouds ajar
like cellar doors
two jets in a dogfight
