Return to Steak and kidney pie (recipe)

  • Take three parts [steak] (the more [tender] the better) to one part [kidney] (preferably [lamb]'s kidney for tenderness).
  • Dice the [meat] into [cube]s approximately 3/4" (2cm)
  • Make up a [thick] [gravy] using your favourite [stock] recipe
  • Line a baking dish with [pastry]: you can use [puff pastry], [plain pastry], whatever
  • Throw the meat into the dish
  • Fill to three-quarters full with the gravy
  • Add any [seasonings] you like
  • Add a pastry lid
  • Bake at a medium heat for about an hour
  • Remove from [oven] and serve [steaming hot] with boiled [potato]es, [chip]s or whatever else takes your fancy
