A Scottish author now living in Brixton, he mostly writes stories about the young underclass of modern British life: travellers, hippies, the unemployed and dispossessed, but he does so with a wonderful sense of humour, a fine hand for characterisation and a sympathetic eye. His style of writing is somewhat unique but very easy to read and he's one of my favourite living authors. I've even had emails from him!

He also wrote the novelisation of the film "Tank Girl" which he qualifies with: "Terrible book. I needed the money. It's a hard life being an author. This is out of print now."
