bacteria grown insulin intended for
injection. This is the heavy hitter in the
insulin world. It takes
effect slowly and keeps
lowering
blood sugar for about twelve hours.
This is the type that I have to be very careful with since I tend to forget that it's working and end with crashing blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).
When I've been particularly poor I've had to go without this type (no insurance) and the long term effects are frightening. This type of insulin is the stabilizer that lets you eat without worrying about the sugar content of each bite. Without the diesel like power of it I end up taking insulin shots three or four times a day.
It is also a suspension and needs to be shaken so that the liquid in the vial is uniformly cloudy before use.
