When I was about 4 years old, we would watch
television in the morning. Cartoons, morning
news, and
PBS. One of my favorite shows was Lilias, Yoga, and You. Lilias was the
yoga expert, and she coached you soothingly through several positions. She was
wiry and soft at the same time, and I would watch her and try to
emulate her positions. I spent long periods of time with my
legs slung over my head and my arms splayed out at my sides, thinking that if I only had a navy
leotard, I would be as much of a special lady as Lilias.
I didn't understand it then, but I got a lot out of Lilias. Wherever she is, she's
responsible for my even breathing and my
renewed interest in calming down for the good of my mind and my body.
