Flagstaff was once a main stopoff on
Route 66 for the rich and famous. It's got lotsa pines, Northern Arizona University, and some of the country's best snowboarding, mountain biking, and skiing (or so I'm told).
While in Flagstaff, you can stay at the Monte Vista hotel, which boasts the
Debbie Reynolds room and the
Bing Crosby suite. Flagstaff is a neat place to visit, there are lots of college town staples such as independent record stores & delicatessens, as well as artsy coffee shops.
Flagstaff differs greatly in atmosphere and architecture from the rest of Arizona. There is little to none of the
southwest kitsch you find in places like
Sedona, and unlike Phoenix, Flagstaff has
seasons that stretch past the bounds of summer and... summer.
