Λακινιος

The hero who gave his name to Cape Lacinium in the territory of the Greek colony of Croton in southern Italy. In some accounts he was said to have been a king of the country, who came from Corcyra, and welcomed Croton when he arrived as a wandering exile; in others he was described as a brigand, a son of the Nymph Cyrene, who had tried to rob HERACLES of his cattle when the hero returned from Erythis with the herds of Geryon. After Heracles had killed Lacinius he built a temple to Hera - the temple on the Hera Lacinia - on the promontory of the same name.
