Ιαλεμος

The son of Apollo and Calliope. He was the brother of Hymenaeus and ORPHEUS (according to one version of the latter's story). Just as Hymenaeus is the personification of the marriage anthems, so Ialemus is the personification of the funeral dirge, expressing grief at the death of young people. He is said to have invented this sort of lament. Sometimes he was identified with Linus who died young and about whom this sort of lament was sung.
