The father of Briseis. In some accounts he was the king of the Leleges in Caria, but generally, like his brother Chryses, he was thought to be the priest of Apollo in the town of Lyrnessos, which was looted by the Greeks during the Trojan War. He had a son as well as his daughter Hippodamia, generally called Briseis, who was named Eetion (not to be confused with the hero of the same name, who was king of Lyrnessos and the father of Andromache). Brises hanged himself when his house was destroyed by Achilles in the course of the sack of the town.
